Menstruation

11 Jan 2024 Ref-No#: 5651

We had finalized our tickets, visa everything last month. And then I started to menstruate. Before my child was born, I’d get my menstruations on similar dates of every month. If it remains same I might get my menstruations on the day I’ll fly to Makkah. We will be there for 4 days. I am planning to enter Ihram before I fly. If I get my period before performing tawaf and have to leave before my bleeding stops, what should I do? Is there any punishment if I enter Ihram and cannot perform Umrah?
N.b. due to health reasons I can’t take medication to stop menstruations.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Respected sister,
Congratulations on your blessed journey.

No one can cross the meeqat without being in the state of ihram. Entering masjid and circumbulating ka’aba is not allowed while menstruating.

If you start menstruating before Tawaf and have to leave Makkah mukarramah before bleeding ends then you will have to offer a dam and a qadah umrah at a later time.
It is better to extend your stay. If not possible then you should perform umrah while seeking istighfar and offer a dam in the haram area.
If you perform Tawaf in a clean state but your periods starts before or during sai, in such a condition, offer sai and your umrah is completed and there is no need for dam.
Try changing your umrah dates so you can benefit from this spiritual journey to the fullest.
