Khutba of Juma in other language than Arabic
Assalamu alaikum
Can Juma khutba be given in any other language than Arabic according to Hanafi madhab ?
Answer
Wa ʿAlaykumus Salām Wa Raḥmatullāhi Wa Barakātuh
The Jumuʿah Khuṭbah has to be delivered in the Arabic language just like how the Athān, Iqāmah, and Ṣalāh are all conducted in the Arabic language.
The practice of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ too was to deliver the Khuṭbah in the Arabic language despite the many people from different areas who have accepted Islām and were not Arabs or could not speak Arabic.
There is no problem in delivering advice in a local language besides Arabic prior to commencing the Khuṭbah.
