Kaffara on Oath

24 Mar 2023 Ref-No#: 5241

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

I have a few questions on different Kaffara, and I would appreciate if you could answer them:

1) Before, I used to swear by Allah, even when I was lying (sometimes on purpose, and sometimes on accident), but now after I repented to Allah from all my previous sins, is Kaffara still due on me? As of now, I am a student who does not earn. Also, I only thought that it was sinful, but did not know that I had to pay Kaffara. I do not remember how many times I have done this, so if Kaffara is needed, how do I pay it, because I am not sure how many times I have done this sin.

2) I have broken a few Fardh Salahs, do I have to give any Kaffara? And how should I repent from that sin?

3) Is it permissible to break Nafl Salah while praying? If not, then is there any Kaffara?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Wa ‘alaykum us-salāmu wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Respected brother,

1: If you lied under oath habitually regarding past incidencs then you need to repent sincerely but there is no kaffarah.

2:  You need to make tawbah for breaking Salah and pray qadha of those Salah. No kaffarah needs to be given.

3: Only when it is inevitable Salah may be broken. Qadha of every broken Salah must be prayed.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
