Is working at a mixed halal restaurant permissible?

01 Feb 2023 Ref-No#: 4262

My father owns a restaurant and I would like to know if my income from it would be a halal source of income. He sells chicken and hamburgers that are not slaughtered islamically and also sells chicken that is slaughtered islamically. I would like to know what part of the job working there would be permitted. Can I fry the haram chicken or should I work only at the cash register? Can I help my dad season the chicken in the morning and can I help take down the chicken from the car when he brings it in the morning? Can I hand the chicken to the customers for to go orders inside the bag? The entire restaurant is to go not dine in.

Answer

Wa’alaykum as Salām wa raḥmatullāhi wa barakātuhu,

It is not permissible to work in this business. You should leave immediately and look for an alternate source of income. Put your trust in Allāh Ta’ālā and watch how He will bless you with better.

You should also advice your father on the impermissibility of ham.
