About exemption from invalidation of wudu

07 Jan 2022 Ref-No#: 1047

I have a severe issue regarding the validity of Wudhu and thus Salah. It has burdened me for too long and caused me tremendous distress. So please, consider my situation in it’s entirety and may Allah reward you for your efforts.

My wudhu appears to be invalidated frequently, unpredictably and quite often without my noticing. The invalidation occurs in the form of discharge of solid and sometimes liquid material from the front passage, this may seem strange but it happens to be my case. To make this clear, this is neither urine, nor Madhiy, nor Wadi – the invalidation has no specific conditions but it gets more frequent when the bladder is full , probably as a result of rising internal pressure. It matters little what this is, rather that it is frequently discharged without any specific pattern. Currently, I perform Istinja for almost every prayer and check myself after praying, only to repeat Istinja, Wudu and Salah if I find something to have come out. I cannot continue this way as I am about to begin my studies and will be unable to perform istinja as public bathrooms are unsuited in my country.

Another point worth mentioning is that I commonly read that the excuse is only granted when the invalidation is constant throughout one prayer time and then keeps occuring at least once every subsequent prayer time. This is not my case. This would mean that I am required to keep trying to pray until I manage to pray once without invalidating my wudu. This would be nigh impossible aspecially in the small time windows available.

So in summary: I have an issue whereby my wudhu is being invalidated by unpredictable, uncontrollable excretion of unknown material from the front passage. Thus far I have kept repeating Istinja and Wudu for every Salah and repeated Salah whenever it happens while praying. This has caused me great frustration and hardship as I spend a great deal of time and effort which may no longer be available.

Please, note that there may be some days during which this issue does not occur, as I cannot always notice it.

As a result of all of this I sometimes shorten my prayer and find it difficult to focus out of fear from having to go through the whole procedure again.

I have read that if a condition like this one is unpredictable then one may be excused from it even if it is not constant. Does that apply here? If that is the case does that mean that I cannot lead anyone in prayer?

Answer

Assalāmuʿalaykum Wa Raḥmatullāhi Wa Barakātuh

Given the circumstances, it is not sufficient for you to be rendered Maʿthūr (excused).

Though it might be frustrating, there is no problem in sufficing on the Farā’iḍ (compulsory acts) of Wuḍū and performing a quick Ṣalāh.

As a point of consolation for yourself, since mankind has been created weak, it is generally difficult for many individuals nowadays to achieve a hundred percent concentration in Ṣalāh. However, in your case, since your prayers are being read quickly due to your circumstances, it will be much easier for you to achieve a hundred percent concentration in Ṣalāh provided that your mind is diverted from the anxiousness pertaining to the possibility of any discharge emerging from the private organ. This will obviously come about after much effort and training of the mind.

It is also advisable to seek medical attention and to remedy the condition so that you may revert to good health, thereby not being placed under difficulty and frustration in terms of your devotional acts of worship.
