Question

Assalamualaikum,
(1) I would like to know if it’s okay for a husband to buy his wife body stockings/ sexually arousing costumes/ lingerie if only used when it comes to their private sexual life ?
(2) Is that worth to spend money on these kind of materials ? May it be considered as Israaf, even if it’s done for the strengthening of the married couple ?
(3) If allowed, is that wrongful for the husband to see couple of half-naked girl models while purchasing some sets for his wife on internet websites ? What can the husband do to avoid these kind of issues ?

Answer

WaʿAlaykumus Salām Wa Raḥmatullāhi Wa Barakātuh

  1. It is permissible for the husband to purchase lingerie for his wife.
  2. It will not fall under the ambit of Isrāf (extravagance) unless he unnecessarily buys his wife lingerie when she already possesses such, or he spends an exorbitant amount of money whereas he could have spent less, in which case it will then be regarded as Isrāf.
  3. The husband will not be permitted, under any circumstance, to look at the ‘half-naked models’.
