Answer
Wa‘alaykum as-salām wa raḥmatullāhi wa barakātuhu,
Scholars generally concur that video games are permissible unless they exhibit specific traits:
- Lack of Benefit: The game should provide substantial benefits for both worldly life and the hereafter.
- Consistency with Islamic Values: It must not include elements contradicting Islamic teachings, such as music or animate objects.
- Disproportionate Harm: Negative aspects of the game should not outweigh its positive contributions.
- Avoidance of Vice: The game must not promote violence, immodesty, or other morally objectionable content.
- Non-Interference with Worship: The game should not be so immersive that it prevents players from fulfilling religious obligations.
Regarding concerns about female characters in games like PUBG and Free Fire, where they may wear non-Islamic clothing, several considerations arise:
- Visual Content: Islam emphasizes modesty and lowering the gaze to avoid inappropriate sights. Deliberately avoiding looking at female characters can help mitigate this concern, though complete avoidance may be challenging given the game’s design.
- Content of the Game: Even without actively viewing characters, the presence of human animations and potentially objectionable elements like violence or music can render the game impermissible.
- Normalization of Immodesty: Exposure to immodest attire, even virtually, may desensitize individuals to its significance.
- Distraction and Temptation: The presence of scantily clad characters can be distracting and may lead to unwelcome thoughts or temptations.
In short, while refraining from direct gaze at such characters may address concerns of immodesty to some extent
And Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala knows best.
