Answer
Wa’alaykum as-Salām wa raḥmatullāhi wa barakātuhu,
In Islamic jurisprudence, particularly according to the Hanafi school, the rules regarding menstrual (ḥaidh) and non-menstrual (istihādah) bleeding involve specific guidelines:
- Colored Discharge at the End of Ḥaidh:
- If you observe colored discharge (e.g., brown, yellow) with clear or white discharge towards the end of your menstrual period, it is crucial to determine whether the colored discharge is part of the menstrual cycle or a sign of post-menstrual discharge.
- Generally, if the discharge is mixed with colored blood and appears towards the end of your cycle, it is still considered part of your ḥaidh, especially if it occurs within the standard period for menstruation (typically up to 10 days for most scholars).
- Determining the Status of Discharge:
- Colored Discharge Mixed with Clear: If you see green or any other colored discharge mixed with clear discharge, the key is to evaluate the quantity and timing. If the colored discharge occurs within the time frame of your expected menstrual period, and if the amount of colored discharge is significant, it is likely part of your menstrual cycle.
- Clear Discharge More: If the clear discharge predominates and the colored discharge is minimal, it might be considered as a sign that your menstrual period is ending, and the clear discharge could indicate the beginning of post-menstrual discharge (istihādah). In this case, you should consider your menstrual period complete once the colored discharge ceases and only clear discharge remains.
Action Steps:
- Track the Pattern: Monitor the pattern of your discharge over a few cycles to better understand your body’s patterns and identify what constitutes your normal menstrual and post-menstrual discharge.
- Consult a Scholar: For specific issues or uncertainties, consulting a knowledgeable Islamic scholar or a local ʿĀlim who can provide personalized guidance based on your observations is beneficial. You will have to provide the scholar with your exact dates of bleeding and the exact dates of purity, for him to assist you
- Perform Ritual Purification (Ghusl): Once you are certain that your menstrual period has ended (i.e., no more colored discharge and a clean period has passed), perform ghusl to ensure you are in a state of ritual purity.
In summary, colored discharge mixed with clear discharge towards the end of your period typically indicates the end of menstruation. However, if the colored discharge is significant and within the usual duration of menstruation, it remains part of the ḥaidh. Always consult knowledgeable sources if you have doubts.
And Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala knows best.
