Touch of Allah

Hello. I have read that Allah touched prophet Muhammad on chest in a dream. I was wondering, speaking on behalf of people, how pure must a person be that Allah touch a person on chest in any form ? Thank you very much kind Sir. Bye.

Answer

Assalāmuʿalaykum Wa Raḥmatullāhi Wa Barakātuh

The Ḥadīth that you may be referring to is reproduced hereunder.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“My Lord came to me in the most beautiful image and said, ‘O Muhammad.’ I said, ‘Here I am at Your service, my Lord.’ He said, ‘What are the angels disputing about…’ I said, ‘My Lord, I do not know.’ So, He put His hand between my shoulders, until I sensed its coolness between my breast, so I knew what was in between the east and the west. He said: ‘O Muhammad!’ I said: ‘Here I am O my Lord! And I am at Your service.’ He said: ‘What is it that the most exalted group busy themselves with?’ I said: ‘In the acts that raise ranks and the acts that atone, and in recording the footsteps to the congregation, Isbagh Al-Wudu in difficulties and awaiting the Salat after the Salat. And whoever preserves them, he shall live in goodness and die upon goodness, and his sins shall be like that on the day upon which his mother bore him.” [Sunan al-Tirmdhī]

The aspect of Allāh ﷻ touching the Prophet ﷺ also indicates the specialty of the Prophet ﷺ for this touching displays much virtue afforded to him and his brilliance as a perfect servant of Allāh ﷻ.

Nevertheless, dreaming of Allāh ﷻ in a dream is possible. It is not merely based on the purity of one’s soul but is also dependent on the selection of Allāh ﷻ i.e., He shall afford such dreams to whomsoever He wishes.
