Stuffed Animal Soft Toy Business

07 Oct 2021 Ref-No#: 3450

Assalaamu Alaikum,

What is the Islamic ruling on the business of soft toys especially octopus, teddy bears, birds, stuffed animals, plushies, etc? Is it completely haraam or Makruh? Please also elaborate what will be consequences separately if it is haraam or Makruh in terms of Akhirah. Lastly, since I have already started the business, what should I do with the profit?

Thanks,

Answer

Wa’alaykum as Salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

It is not permissible to sell anything with facial features.

As for the stock which you have already, you may sell them off at cost.

If you sold anything for a profit, you should give that excess funds in Sadaqah. If you need the excess funds/profit at this stage, you may use it for now, make Tawba, and make the firm intention that in future you will pay this amount in charity.
