Speaking in a Masjid
Question
Bismillah.Regarding the masjid,some scholars said speaking of wordly matters is permissible as long as it disturbs none and other said it is not at all.Please,dear Mufti,I seek clarity and the firm truth on the matter,explain to me the rulings.
Answer
Wa’alaykum as Salam wa rahamtullahi wa barakatuhu,
The Masjid is a sacred place which should be sanctified. To speak of worldly affairs unnecessarily is detested (Makruh). If there is a real neccesisty, a person may talk silently, in a way that does not violate the sacredness of the Masjid, and nor does it disturb anyone who is engaged in worship.
أنه يكره للمعتكف أن يتكلم بالمباح بخلاف غيره ولهذا قالوا الكلام المباح في المسجد مكروه يأكل الحسنات كما تأكل النار الحطب صرح به فتح القدير قبيل باب الوتر لكن قال الأسبيجابي ولا بأس أن يتحدث بما لا إثم فيه وقال في الهداية لكنه يتجانب ما يكون مأثما والظاهر ما ذكرناه كما لا يخفي (البحر الرائق – 2/ 327)
