Praying in Incorrect Times
Question
Hi, I have two questions. The first is if in my home country the asr prayer starts at 4pm at the masjid and I pray it at 5.30pm in the masjid,is my prayer valid? And the second question is: if I go out with my parents to a restaurant and in the restaurant there is nowhere to pray except the bathroom and in the car park outside there is no space to pray because the car parks are small, can I pray maghrib and isha before going to a place (example: Maghrib starts at 8pm and I have to leave at 7:30pm can I pray them together at 7pm) what could I do?

Wa ‘alaykum as-salām wa raḥmatullāhi wa barakātuhu,
- Praying ‘Asr at the Masjid After Its Designated Time:
- The time for ‘Asr prayer begins when the shadow of an object is twice its length (besides the shadow when the sun reached the meridian) and ends just before sunset. If 5:30 PM falls within this period, your ‘Asr prayer is valid.
- While it is permissible to pray ‘Asr anytime from when it sets in until sunset, it is necessary for males to pray in congregation in the Masjid.
- Praying Maghrib and ‘Isha Together Before Leaving for the Restaurant:
- If you need to leave at 7:30 PM and Maghrib starts at 8 PM, you cannot pray the Maghrib prayer. Each Ṣalāh must be prayed within its prescribed time. Hence, neither Maghrib nor ‘Ishā can be prayed before their respective times.
Alternative Solutions:
- Talk to Restaurant Management: Politely request a clean and quiet space for prayer if feasible.
- Pray Earlier: If possible, try to pray Maghrib closer to its designated time before leaving home or find a nearby prayer space.
- Look Further: Search for a nearby masjid, a friend’s house, or any suitable place where you can perform your prayers on time. Many restaurants have rest areas or nearby parks where you may be able to pray.
