Question

I’ve written 60 tweets for a person who teaches crypto trading, so that he can post those tweets on his Twitter account. He paid me $100 for this. Is it permissible for me to use the money as I’ve worked for him?

Answer

Wa’alaykum as Salām wa raḥmatullāhi wa barakātuhu

The Nature of the Work:

  1. Nature of Crypto Trading:
    • Crypto trading involves buying and selling cryptocurrencies with the aim of making a profit. While cryptocurrencies are relatively new, and there is ongoing scholarly debate about their permissibility, many scholars view crypto trading as permissible as long as it adheres to Islamic principles such as avoiding interest (Ribā) and ensuring that the transactions are free from excessive uncertainty (Gharar).
  1. Content Creation:
    • Your role was to create tweets for someone who teaches crypto trading. The act of writing and creating content itself is not inherently prohibited (Ḥarām). It depends on the content and its alignment with Islamic values .

Key Considerations:

  1. Permissibility of the Content:
    • If the tweets you wrote promote lawful and ethical aspects of crypto trading, such as education on how to trade responsibly, avoiding fraudulent schemes, and adhering to Islamic financial principles, then your work is permissible.
    • If the content encourages unethical or Ḥarām activities, such as promoting interest-based transactions, excessive speculation, or gambling-like behavior, then there may be issues.

  1. Compensation for Lawful Work:
    • Assuming the content of the tweets is ethical and lawful, the compensation you received for your work is considered permissible. You have provided a legitimate service and have been rightfully compensated for it.

Conclusion:

Given the information provided, if the content you created aligns with ethical and lawful practices, then your earning of $100 for writing tweets for a crypto trading teacher is permissible. You have engaged in lawful work and received payment for your efforts. Ensure that the content remains within the bounds of Islamic ethics to maintain the permissibility of your earnings.

And Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala knows best.
