Haram Food in the house
Question
Assalamulakum Warahmatulahi wabarakatu, my name is (removed for privacy) and I was wondering if it permissible to have haram food in the house.
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Wa ‘alaykum us-salāmu wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
A Muslim should not store ḥarām items in their home. The presence of ḥarām food could potentially contaminate ḥalāl edibles. Furthermore, having ḥarām food readily available can be tempting for those living in the household. It could even lead a person to unknowingly consume the ḥarām food, assuming it is ḥalāl. At the very least, it will desensitize the household against ḥarām. Therefore, maintaining a ḥalāl environment is crucial for one’s spiritual well-being and adherence to Islamic principles.
And Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala knows best.
