Answer

Wa’alaykum as-Salām wa raḥmatullāhi wa barakātuhu,

It’s understandable to feel worried, but it’s crucial to remember the immense mercy and forgiveness of Allah (SWT). Allah’s compassion is boundless, and He is always ready to forgive those who sincerely repent.

  1. Mercy of Allah: Allah (SWT) has described Himself in the Qurʾān as the Most Forgiving and Most Merciful. He says in Sūrat az-Zumar (39:53), “Say, ‘O My servants who have harmed yourselves by your own selves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.'” This verse reassures us that no matter how grave the sin, Allah’s forgiveness is greater.
  2. Repentance: Sincere repentance (tawbah) involves feeling genuine remorse for the sin, ceasing the sin immediately, and making a firm intention not to commit it again. If you have repented sincerely, Allah has promised to accept your repentance and forgive your sins. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, “Allah is more pleased with the repentance of a servant than a man who has lost his camel in a desert and then finds it.” (Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī)
  3. Restoration of Good Deeds: Allah (SWT) says in Sūrat al-Furqān (25:70), “Except for those who repent, believe and do righteousness. For them Allah will replace their evil deeds with good. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.” This verse signifies that Allah can not only forgive sins but also replace them with good deeds.
  4. Reassurance: Even if you fear that your previous good deeds might be affected, your sincere repentance is a strong means of rectifying the situation. Allah (SWT) is aware of your heart and intentions. He does not let the efforts of a sincere servant go to waste.

In summary, hold onto the hope of Allah’s boundless mercy. Continue with your good deeds and maintain sincerity in your worship and repentance. Trust in Allah’s promise of forgiveness and remember that His mercy encompasses all things. Your sincere repentance and faith will be accepted, and your previous good deeds are not lost but are preserved and potentially rewarded anew by His grace.

And Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala knows best.
