Protest against oppressor

02 Feb 2023 Ref-No#: 4596

Assalamualaikum Sheikh If someone insult our religion is it permissible to do protest against them? And What is the rulling regarding this matter and what should we do as an ummah of PROPHET Muhammad (ﷺ)

Answer

Wa’alaykum as Salām wa raḥmatullāhi wa barakātuhu,

From the time of the Prophet (ṣallAllāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) and throughout the centuries, the non-Muslims continued to insult our religion. There was never any protests. Whilst they verbally speak against Islām, the are many laws of Allāh broken in such protests, and this harms our religion even more.

We should do what the Muslims always done. We should:

  • Increase our own worship and become more loyal to our religion
  • Stay away from sins. The sin of a Muslim harms Islām more than a comment of a non-Muslim
  • Ignore their foolish statements, but respond to logical arguments that they may bring forth. For this, we need to study our Dīn well. If they are just making silly comments, then it is best to ‘ignore manure’.
  • Make Du’ā for their guidance.
  • Show good character that other non Muslims become attracted to our religion, and by witnessing our conduct, they clearly realize how incorrect those people are.
