Praying in clothes that have madi.

16 Mar 2023 Ref-No#: 5249

I am writing to seek your guidance on a matter related to my prayer ritual. I was in a restaurant and had made wudu (ablution) in the bathroom. However, when I stood to pray, I remembered that I had some pre-seminal discharge earlier and had on the same underwear. I was aware of the ruling that one should sprinkle water on their underwear in such cases. However, I had already started praying when I remembered this, and I didn’t break the prayer assuming that the drops were less than a dirham in area. However, a lot of time had passed, and I had no way of verifying if it was more than a dirham or not. Additionally, the restaurant had western-style washrooms, and I wasn’t used to them, so it was difficult for me to wash my genitals as I would’ve had to take off my pants for that. I finished praying in the same state.

I am seeking your guidance on what the ruling is for me in this case. I am concerned about the validity of my prayer and if I have committed any sins. I would greatly appreciate your advice on this matter

Answer

Wa’alaykum as Salām wa raḥmatullāhi wa barakātuhu,

As a precaution, repeat that prayer and make Istighfār.
