Led Salah Without Doing Istibra (Using Tissue To Remove Urine Drops)

20 Jan 2022 Ref-No#: 2516

Asalaamualaykum,

I hope you are well.

When I first properly started practicing Islam properly whilst being baligh, I did not think it was necessary to use tissue after urinating.

This means that I did not perform istibra to free myself of the remaining leftovers of urine and I was very ignorant and there was a few times which I led other people in salah.

My question is: Do I need to repeat those salahs?

Do the people who I led behind me need to repeat those salahs too?

This was a few years ago. I am a male.

JazakAllahu khair

WaʿAlaykumus Salām Wa Raḥmatullāhi Wa Barakātuh

Istibrā is the process where a male ensures that the last drops of urine are taken out.

There are various forms of Istibrā such as coughing, clearing the throat with exertion, or simply leaning to one side amongst money; hence, the use of toilet tissue is not the only form of Istibrā.

If you were certain that in all previous instances you have cleansed yourself and ensured that no drops of urine remained in the urethra, then it can be said that all your Ṣalāhs in reference is valid, and therefore, such doubts that have now occurred should not be entertained.
