Jumu’ah In Other Than a Masjid

04 Dec 2021 Ref-No#: 4091

Is it permissible to pray Jumu’ah in an office space or a room inside the school/university for the person who is unable to attend the Masjid for Jumu’ah? Or should the person pray zuhr instead?

Answer

Assalāmuʿalaykum Wa Raḥmatullāhi Wa Barakātuh

If there is absolutely no way at all that a person may perform the Jumuʿah Ṣalāh in a Masjid with the congregation, and after having looked at all suitable venues such as Muṣallās, Jamāt Khānas, etc. then only will a person be permitted to host their own Jumuʿāh in an office space or room provided that there are another three adult Muslim males with him. If they are fewer than four adult Muslim males in total, then Ẓuhr Ṣalāh will be performed instead of Jumuʿah Ṣalāh.

Also, the reason for not being able to attend the Jumuʿah Ṣalāḥ in its prescribed manner should be one that is validly recognized by the Ṣharī’āḥ.
