Haram or halal
My mother’s a government employee and gets the benefits such as benevolent fund if her son/daughter scores 90% marks in exams in 9th,10th,11th,12th grade. I scored 90% in 9,10,11,12 grade and got the amount for 10,12 grade. When i went to receive the amount the person said you can get your amount for 11 grade too if you apply late too which i did and got the amount for 11 grade too, but in return he asked some amount from it in favor, will it be considered haram to get my amount although i claimed it late and had to give some amount from it to the other person to get my amount.
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Dear student,
Congratulations!
May you excell in the hereafter too!
If you were entitled to get the reward even later then the money you got is Halal. Otherwise Haram if late claim were not to be entertained.
The money the official took is bribe, a major sin and Haram. He is being extremely sinful for this act.
In extreme conditions, one can give bribe for his rights but this was not an extreme case. Hence, it’s better you repent and/ or give some charity because you should have tried to get your reward some other way eg by first making dua to Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala then taking help from some acquaintance etc and by being patient had it gotten delayed or had you been deprived of it.
And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
