Validity of Nikāh with a Christian witness
Assalamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu Mufti Sahab,
If a marriage is performed in front of one Muslim witness and one Christian witness, will the marriage be valid?
The condition of having two sane baligh male Muslim witnesses wouldn’t be satisfied, but I’d like to have this confirmed by you as I’ve read a fatwa stating that the witnessing of two Christian when marrying a Christian woman is accepted, wa Allahu a’lam.

Wa’alaykum as Salām wa raḥmatullāhi wa barakātuhu,
If the bride and groom are Muslims, it will be a condition that the witnesses of the Nikāh are also Muslims. Perhaps the verdict you have read refers to the Nikāh of a Muslim male to a female of Ahl al-Kitāb (people of the book), in which case it is not necessary for the witnesses to be Muslims.
