Cat najasat

21 Jan 2020 Ref-No#: 2363

Asalamualaikum

We have multiple cats and we have to separate them. One cat stays upstairs and she eats her food and uses her litter there. Her food plate and litter box is on a carpeted floor. Unfortunately, we have to frequently clean the floor because impurity (unclean cat food, urine, stool) gets on the ground a lot no matter how many precautions we make.

I clean it by trying my best to get rid of the impurity by lifting it or rubbing it until dry, then pouring water over it then patting tissue on top. To have to keep doing this often is bothersome.

The place where her food and litter is kept is a place my family has to walk through in order to get into other rooms so I’m constantly worried about stepping on najasah.

Is there an easier way to clean the mess or even deal with this issue entirely?

(Our cat rarely goes out to use the toilet and we can’t force her.)

Answer

Wa’alaykum as Salam warahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

If you can see the feaces of the cat, then method of cleaning is by removing the impurity, and cleaning all the traces of the impurity.

However, if the carpet is soiled with urine, you should pour water on the on the impure portion. Then dab the area to dry )to such an extent that if you were to squeeze it, no water would drip) with a cloth or sponge. Repeat this three times, and the area will become pure. Merely rubbing the carpet without water will not suffice.
