Calculation of Qaza Umri

السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ
My question is regarding missed prayers and how to perform them.

I have missed almost 6 years of prayers due to my negligence, however I would like to repent and perform the missed prayers and need assistance on how I can do that.

During the 6 years, I am unsure how many prayers I missed, as I might have prayed Jumma, or some prayers, however, I have majority of those as well.

I have 2 questions –

1- How do I calculate my missed prayers, as I do not know the exact number because I prayed some, I travelled to places many times which also led me to miss qasr salah? Do I have to calculate qasr salah qaza as well or do I just perform as it is?

2- If I pray extra qaza umri (more than what I missed) will the extra prayers be counted as nawafil, or they won’t count towards anything?

Please let me know the answers to these questions as soon as possible.

Answer

Wa’alaykum as Salam wa raḥmatullāhi wa barakātuhu,

It is the great bounty of Allāh Ta’ālā he blessed you with the realization and opportunity of making up for your missed prayer. May Allāh Ta’ālā make it easy for you

  • You should estimate to the best of your ability how many prayers you missed. You should also try your best to estimate how many prayers were Qaṣ Sit with a calender and work our when you went on journeys, and how many prayers you may have missed during that period. You can then make up accordingly.
  • If you pray extra, it will be considered as Nafl. Hence, if you really missed a lot and you cannot work out, just make up for six years of prayers. You will still be rewarded for the extra. Allāh Ta’ālā never wastes a person’s good deads.
