Arsalan

Wa’alaykum as Salām wa rahmatullāhi wa barakātuhu,

The most correct way to spell the name Arsalan, in line with the Arabic letters is as follows:

Arsalān (أَرْسَلَان)

However, due to many state-provided Identity Documents unable to accommodate for the special character ‘ā’, one may suffice on keep the spelling as ‘Arsalaan’.

The scholars have differed with regard to its origin.

Some scholars mention that it is derived from the Arabic language, in which case it would mean:

‘One who delivers or conveys’.

Other scholars have mentioned that it originates from the Turkish language, in which case it would then mean:

‘Lion’ or ‘brave’.

To keep such a name, irrespective of the difference mentioned above is permissible.
