Am I allowed to show myself in pardha infront of ghair mahrams in my home?

13 Oct 2021 Ref-No#: 3731

السلام عليكم ورحمت الله وبركاته
I adopt strict pardha and do not show myself (physically) to my brother-in-law and other ghair mahrams in my home even though I am covered in niqab. I do not exit my home unless to attend hifz class or other necessities. I wonder if it’s hypocritical of me that when I attend hifz class, men on the road see me but when I am at home, I stay in the room and do not show myself to the men there? Am I being extreme in staying in my room or am I allowed to show my physical form to the men in my home as long as I am covered in full niqab?

Answer

Wa’alaykum as Salam wa rahmatullahi wa barkatuhu,

Together with covering your face, you should have a Burqa which conceals the shape of your body. Likewise, your feet should be covered.

If you are covered in this way, you may go in front of your brother in law and other ghair Mahrams in your home when there is a need.

Whilst it is permissible for you to go in front of them whilst you are fully covered, you should ensure never to be alone with any Ghair Mahram in one room with a closed door (even though you are covered).

You should also be careful not to look at them.
